This is a BIG STEP in the Democrats’ direction and the sign of the final leg of this long negotiation. Both sides are getting very close, and a deal is imminent.
Dr. Chhoda also addresses:
– His comments on whether this NEW enhanced unemployment benefit extension is going to be retroactive
– A surprising acknowledgement from the Florida Governor about a UI system designed to ‘pay the least number of claims’ (words from the Governor)
– Why individuals on unemployment benefits are MORE LIKELY to look for new jobs
CONCESSIONS FROM THE REPUBLICANS
1 – $400/wk enhanced unemployment benefits extension through Dec. 15. This is up significantly from earlier offers from the GOP, it is less than the $600/week enhanced unemployment benefit extension levels that Democrats have been pushing for
2 – Eviction moratorium through 12/15 – this is also significant since it was not a part of the HEALS Act proposal
3 – $200 billion in state and local money. Dems say the offer is actually $150 billion.
CONCESSIONS FROM THE DEMOCRATS
– Lowered ask on money for USPS from $25 billion to $10 billion
