Thousands of people are running for office this year, and while most made the decision well before the pandemic struck, a small crop of candidates have more recently jumped into political races after losing their jobs or dealing with other work-related fallout from the pandemic.
The White House and House Speaker Pelosi continued their battle today over USPS legislation.
“The public is demanding action on this now,” Pelosi told CNN’s Jake Tapper on “State of the Union.” “I can’t see how the Senate can avoid it unless they do so to their peril.”
The Federal Emergency Management Agency, which is overseeing program funding, had approved 26 states to offer the extra unemployment benefits as of around 3 pm ET on Monday, August 24.
Most of the 19 states that applied for the assistance as of Thursday are paying a lower amount.
Three states, Kentucky, Montana and West Virginia, are opting for the full $400.
The difference is due to federal rules around cost-sharing.
